A Beckoning Glow

Inspired by “The Flame” by Jackson Pollock

“The Flame” Jackson Pollock 1938

A warm glow flickers, casting dark shadows,
Men and women dance before it
Life and darkness, good and bad, all intermingle before the pyre

The flame rises and casts it beckoning light farther
The beasts before it cheer
Its light a flickering deity

The cold darkness attempts to enter
To attach to the beings before the flame
To pull them into it's hug

But the mighty pyre pushes back
Its heat envelopes the people
Nice and warm, a mother's embrace

The shadows are cast back
The people safe
The pyre burns brighter now

The once cold dark is gone now
Only warm, beckoning light remains
A constant hope, a dream, a god.
